Selected students will be awarded $3,500 toward their university studies. Winners will also have the opportunity to join a series of virtual summer events, as well as a trip to either our bp Houston or Chicago office, all designed to help prepare you for the internship application process.

About the program

This engineering scholarship program aims to bridge the knowledge gap between K-12 education and university success, establishing a strong foundation throughout college. This program provides transferable skills development, experiential learning, an introduction to the energy industry and a mentoring offer. Here you will receive essential tools needed to transition to university and beyond.

Application timeline and process

1. Complete your application by May 31, 2025.
2. Upon application completion, candidates will be sent a link via email to complete an on-demand, Hirevue, interview.
3. Selected applicants will be notified by 4 June 2025.
4. Scholars are required to confirm their participation and acceptance of the award by 8 June 2025.
5. Confirmed 2025 bridge scholars will join a virtual orientation session on 9 July 2025.
6. Scholars must attend the in-person bridge program July 29-August 1, 2025 in Houston, TX.
7. Scholars are awarded a $5,000 scholarship post in-person program participation.
8. Following the 4-day in-person program, scholars begin monthly professional development, and mentorship calls (September 2025 – May 2026).

Participants in our early engagement programmes will get the opportunity to hear from the brightest minds in bp and learn from their experiences as leaders in a global company, participate in interactive sessions with current graduates and gain insight into internships and careers within our industry.

Do you have a strong interest in financial markets and trading? Are you interested in a career in energy? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, the sophomore experience programme may be the perfect blend of your interests and an opportunity to learn about careers within supply, trading & shipping at bp. This programme is designed exclusively for university students expected to graduate between December 2023 - June 2024 and gives a deep dive into the world of commodity trading in the energy industry.

Through this sophomore experience, you’ll experience the following:  

• Exploration of bp’s energy marketing and origination, operations, analytics and trading culture  
• Gained experience through trading simulations, case studies and presentations
• Growing your network within bp  
• Engagements with bp executives and leadership development opportunities  
• Learning about the bp summer internship and graduate development programme
• After successful completion, sophomore experience participants will be eligible to submit early applications to the internship programme. If qualified, you will be invited to the formal interview process. 
   

Programme eligibility 

• Have a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA
• Have a graduation date of December 2023 or June 2024
• Must have the ability to work in Canada now and in the future with no restrictions  
   

Programme Dates

• Programme will start on Monday, June 6th, and will continue through Thursday, June 16th, 2022. The sessions will run mid-day, Monday through Thursday for two weeks via Microsoft Teams. Each session will last 90 minutes to two hours.
