Working in cyber – Ádám’s story

“At bp, you don’t have to leave the company to try something completely new.”

Ádám is an information security specialist in technology (digital governance, risk & compliance), based in Budapest. He’s been with bp for six years, starting out in communications and progressing into technology. We spoke to him about his career journey, his work in cyber security and how bp has supported both his professional growth and life beyond work.

What does your role involve?

I help build strong cyber security habits across bp. I lead quarterly, global awareness campaigns about cyber safety that help people spot risks, pick up best practices and stay safe. I also support global roll‑outs, answer questions from teams across Europe and help share cyber risk insights – always encouraging good cyber behaviours and looking for ways to improve how we deliver value.

What are the top two benefits of working at bp for you?

The first is a healthy work life balance. The flexibility bp provides meant I could be there for my baby daughter’s most important milestones as she grew up. Not having to choose between family and career has made a huge difference to my wellbeing.

The second is being part of a truly global community. Through bp, I’ve met inspiring people from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds. These connections keep me energised, make work enjoyable and have turned colleagues into lasting friends.

What’s the culture like at bp Hungary?

bp is a genuinely inclusive place to work. People listen to different perspectives and value individual contributions. Being able to bring my true self to work makes me feel supported and part of a community that really cares about its people.

The teammates I’ve met at bp have also been inspiring. Over six years, I’ve built friendships and found mentors across the world. That sense of connection has kept me motivated and energised throughout my time here.

How has bp supported your professional growth?

When I joined bp, I worked in communications where I had access to formal training, interactive workshops, external courses and on-the-job learning. As I’ve progressed, I’ve also developed skills in agile ways of working, digital tools and project delivery. These skills are now helping me take my career in a new direction within technology and cyber security.

Can you share a project you’re particularly proud of?

I’m proud to build awareness and engagement around cyber safety in my current role. The risks are real and can affect anyone, so every campaign, article or message helps colleagues stay alert and empowered – contributing to a safer, more resilient bp.

What advice would you give to someone just starting at bp?

Be open, be present and have a clear sense of purpose in your career.
